During one of the absences, I helped the kids make a cool castle made out of toilet paper rolls, boxes, paper and tape. Those are my kind of building supplies. I think it turned out nicely, and it was a lot of fun. It came complete with a tower and a secret entrance. Who needs board games when you have a castle like that? Especially with Bumble Bee and various Power Rangers standing guard.
It's no laughing matter, however, when guys try to attack the castle. My kids don't joke around about punishment. Woody, Black Power Ranger and Two Shreks bit the dust after trying a sneak attack on Bumble Bee.
I also must show you a 'Daddy-tainment' project - just so you can see what Jonathan and the boys do during their fun time. That silver contraption you see down there is a solar oven. Yes, I build castles and cardboard wise men, and my husband builds actual useful things with them. 
We decided to try it out for the first time on the roof. If you look carefully, you can see my oven thermometer and four little potatoes inside the oven. You can also see two little Jon Thomas feet, which makes the picture even cuter. Although we left the oven outside for the better part of a day, our potatoes didn't cook all the way through. Sad. Perhaps baked potatoes wasn't the best choice for the solar oven. Next time, we are also going to try a new location - on top of the tin roof of our little carport. But we are still undecided as to what to try and cook next. Anyone? Anyone?

love the construction projects--both! What about a low temp/fast cooking thing that is already somewhat cooked--a pasta casserole or brownies?
